The achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body. It is the tendon that connects you’re calf muscle to you’re heel.
As you can imagine it undergoes substantial pressure not only if through exercises but also through day to day life.
Depending on whether you’re achilles tendon pain is acute or chronic, there are several techniques which will ‘assist’ you in lessoning the pain and hopefully making a full recovery through time.
Please understand that tendonitis and related injuries can take time and in fact most of the ‘treatments’ you have heard of DO NOT work for long term relief.
In the rest of this short post, I’ll give you some tips I used when I had tendonitis, but as I said above, most of these are temporary at best. At the end of this article, I’ll give you my favorite resource for a long-term strategy I recommend to both acute and chronic tendonitis sufferers.
>> The best way to get relief is to REST. Believe it or not, if you nothing else but rest there is a damn good chance you will eventually make a full recovery. Rest and time are the mother of all treatment. Unfortunately, if you’re an athlete like me or you just don’t have the patience then..
>> Use anti-inflammatory gels/sprays to provide temporary pain relief. These will not ‘cure’ you but they do help in reducing inflammation and pain.
>> Raise you’re heel to take the pressure off the tendon. You’ll need to see a professional for this and they will give you appropriate shoe inserts.
>> Use Ice/Heat combinations to both reduce inflammation and loosen up the tendon – effective for short term goals.
>> See a physician for effective eccentric exercises that will strengthen the muscles surrounding the tendon. (weak muscles or muscle imbalances causes tendonitis problems)
>> Ultrasound treatment can also be effective for short term pain relief and reduction of inflammation.
>>> Read "Free From Tendonitis Pain" by Anne K. West Ph.D immediately. Anne teaches a unique method for long term relief from tendonitis and I highly recommend her material for any type of tendonitis.

I hope you have gotten some insights and ideas for relieving you’re achilles tendon and please take action on these tips. Believe me, tendonitis is not something you want to live with forever!
