Other Treatments for Tendonitis

Tendons are basically a strong tissue that attaches the body’s muscles to its bones. When these tendons become irritated or inflamed, tendonitis occurs. If it’s caught early on, you can easily obtain treatment for tendonitis and it can be cured. Although the pain from tendonitis may go away within 3 weeks, it can take up to a full 6 months or longer to fully recover. Scar tissue will begin to build over the area and may continue to build for up to a year.

• Stop what you’re doing. If there’s an activity you’re participating in that you think may have caused your tendonitis, refrain from it immediately.
• Obtain a brace. If you visit a clinic and get treatment for tendonitis, it’s very likely that your doctor will give you a brace for it to prevent further strain on the area. The type of brace used will depend on the area where it will be used.
• Evaluate after a period of 3 weeks. If you’re still feeling pain, continue to rest. Once the pain subsides completely for a few weeks, you are ready for the final step.
• Slowly begin to add light resistance and stretching. You want to start moving the area to see if you experience any pain. If you do, than you need to continue to rest. If no pain is experienced, you’ll want to use a very light weight to complete exercises regularly for at least 3 to 4 weeks. You want to make sure you don’t over exert yourself, if you do, you won’t be able to cure your tendonitis.

To prevent having to go through treatment for tendonitis again, be sure to let your body rebuild itself before you stress it again. Many of the patients, who experience tendonitis more than once, didn’t let it completely heal itself the first time. When the pain is gone, proceed with great caution, but don’t be afraid to move. Movement is essential in order for the healing process to be a success.
